Information Technology Degrees Valid Today?

0

I’ve been toying with the idea of heading back to school every now and then to get my Bachelor’s Degree in computer science. It wasn’t too long ago that I finished up my Associates Degree and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. But I have to ask, is it worth it today? Does it hold the same worth as it did 10 years ago? I don’t believe so.

Roulette Strategy?

5

Roulette is pretty much the only game I can play at a casino where I don’t feel like I am getting totally jobbed (haven’t invested time in learning craps yet). I’m not an idiot, I know that casinos are designed to take my money. The reason I play is to sit down with a group of people and have spirited banter about how good or bad the wheel has treated us and maybe come out with a few extra bucks. However, it’s during these play sessions, you can find some people with interesting betting strategies.

My Next Phone: Nexus 4G

0

What can I say, cell phones are one of my guilty pleasures in life. I enjoy the new technology so much that I own 5 cell phone lines for just my wife and I. While that may sound crazy, I can assure you that I do not use more than one cell phone. The rest of my phones have been sold off to pay for the contract commitment. But hey, I was able to own the newest technology until I got tired of it and maybe even make a few bucks by selling it on Ebay.

*tears of joy running down my cheeks, holding up wad of cash*

I would like to take this moment to thank God for giving me the ability to win some money. I would like to thank baby Jesus for saving me from my gambling sin. I would like to thank the tourney director, you know who you are! You have helped make a dream of mine a reality. Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank my husband, I hope you know who you are. When I thought I didn’t have a shot, you never stopped believing in me. Well, there was that one afternoon during the third round when you thought I didn’t have a chance in hell. Then when you realized I was indeed still alive, you put a smile back on your face as you saw the potential dollar signs. Thank-you also to my fans (when you wish you were a winner like me, I like to be positive and say you are a fan and not envious.) Drive home safe!

Gameservers.com & BigBrotherBot & FTPtail

Yes, Big Brother Bot can work remotely to do server administration for gaming servers. I actually purchased a Rackspace Cloud server and setup my own instance of linux to manage all of our games. But thats not what this blog post is about. I want to very briefly discuss an issue I had with setting up B3 with our Call of Duty 2 server using FTPtail.

Call Of Duty Black Oops

I’m thinking I should have named my blog “Grind My Gears” after the Family Guy episode after all the bitching I’ve been doing here. With that said, I want to blog just a bit about one of the best selling games of all time: Call of Duty Black Ops. For all the “fun” this game is, it has many shortcomings that make me wonder why its so popular. More on that in a bit.

Openfire On 64bit Fedora 14

0

I’ve setup Openfire servers on many occasions for testing and other production purposes without a hitch. However, I had the pleasure of running into a little snag with an Openfire jabber server today. I don’t normally work with 64bit machines but thats what I was given from our network team.

  • Openfire download and install? Check.
  • MySQL download install? Check.
  • Start Openfire? Fail.

Openfire has been pretty solid anytime I tried to install it. So, after checking a few forum posts I cam across this gem.

Hyper-V & Fedora 14 Network

Our company has a few Fedora 14 boxes hosted out on a 3rd party solution. These boxes typically host some web service for a variety of products. However, to save some cash we decided to host testing environments locally on some virtual servers.

We ran into a roadblock when performing the install with regards to the network. Our first hiccup was the fact that we did not user legacy drivers and couldn’t find our network card. A simple google query would have resolved that problem. Our network administrator forgot that we had to do that for our Ubuntu install as well (we don’t do much linux here).
